Climb “the greatest Mountain”

Named "The Greatest Mountain" by the Penobscot Native Americans, Katahdin is located within Northeast Piscataquis, Piscataquis County, and is home to the culmination of the Appalachian Trail. The centerpiece of our 235,000-acre Baxter State Park, it is also the highest mountain in the Maine (5,267 feet). One of the most well-known trails, the “knife’s edge,” attracts hikers from all over, seeking to accomplish this technical and well-exposed trail.
